Hi Everybody, My name is Michelle I'm 33 years of age, and was diagnosed with RA in April this year. I broke my wrist in December 2009, which was when the pain started everywhere else. After all the waiting and test after test it was a relief when I was diagnosed as I just did not know what the hell was wrong with me.

Luckily I was pointed in the right direction of the NRAS website which has helped.

I don't usually bother with forums but as I have joined up with the NRAS I thought I'd better introduce myself.

I have been off work since December 2009. I am on long term sick leave.

Due to start Methotrexate next week, I have been having Predisolone April which has been brilliant.

I am still experiencing flare up's so to speak but no where near as bad as before started the steriods, just hope its not too bad when I start the treatment next week, as steriods being reduced.

I have to say that my consultant and treatment received through all of this have been brilliant!

Michelle

Hi Michelle - welcome to the forum. I find it a godsend to be able to talk to others who know what I'm going though. I hope the Methotrexate works for you, it did for me for a long time after diagnosis. Good luck.

Hi Michelle

I am Jenni! I am 34, married with 3 children. Got severe RA Im afraid.

Really pleased to read that you are starting the MTX, steroid will help the symptoms but they wont stop the flairs im afraid- you need some disease modifyer (DMARDs) to do that and the mtx is the gold standard treatment for RA.

Lots of people do wonderfully well on it.

Love and best wishes

Hi Michelle,

Like you had never been on a forum before I was diagnosed with RA in May. I have taken my 8th dose of MTX this week 20mg weekly and working already, apart from feeling tired for two days after taking the dose and a slight loss of appetite no other problems.

This site has been a god send for me just to be able to gain information and advice.

Hello Michelle

Welcome to the forum. I was diagnosed just over two years ago. I started on sulpa....(still can't spell it) and have just started taking MTX. I see my nurse on Monday for first six week report in. I read alot about people taking MTX and was a little worried about the side effects, but I can report that I have not had anything at all (touch wood, touch wood).

I don't know if you've read my thread on the RA discussion section, but it's about a little girl who's been on MTX and she's done so well on it..

Keep posting so we can get to now your a little more.

Take Care

Hi Michelle,

Sorry you have RA but welcome to the forum, everyone is great and there is lots of advice even social gatherings. Smile I am Lorna I have had RA for almost 3 years, I have been married to my husband Ken for 28 years and have 3 daughters. I like you was hit very hard in the beginning and also wondered what was wrong with me. After 5 weeks of tests and blood tests I was referred to a rheumatologist who diagnosed me there and then, blood tests proved it 2 weeks later. I have been on the triple therapy since then on MTX Sulph, Hydrox and Folic Acid although I no longer have the Sulph, I no longer need it. Was scary in the beginning but I am so much better now the drugs do help. Looking forward to getting to know you Lorna x Smile

Hi Michelle,

Welcome to the Forum. I hope the Methotrexate works well for you. I've taken it for over 30 years (except when pregnant twice) with virtually no problems at all.

Keep posting!

Sorry so late in replying to your post and even sorrier you have the dreaded RA. You have joined the right forum as the people on here are a wealth of information, comfort and laughsBigGrin

I was diagnosed with RA 18 months ago and have been on various combinations of drugs including Methotrexate. It is very good at controlling the RA but may take some time to actually start working - mine was just over 12 weeks. The steriods will hopefully keep you going in the meantime.

Keep posting and once again welcome

Jackie

Hi Michelle

A very late but warm welcome to the forum! Pleased to hear that the powers that be have got you onto Methotrexate quickly. It is regarded as the gold standard drug in the treatment of RA and can be hugely beneficial in the slowing down of disease. Steroids too have their place and are particularly useful for short term usage and the control of flares. Hope your disease is soon under control and you find the methotrexate tolerable.

My name is Lyn, married to Mike and have four offspring (22,17,17,15) all growing up quickly, as they do! We live in Thornton Cleveleys which is on the Fylde Coast in Lancashire. I have had sero-negative RA for 22 years, run the gamut of medication and several surgical procedures. Currently on Enbrel (well I will be when I restart following surgery!), prednisolone, naproxen and right now any painkillers I can lay my mitts on.

Good luck with the treatment. Look forward to getting to know you.
